Investigating how newborn organisms learn
to perceive and reason about the world

Our Mission

Understand the Origins of the Mind

Our Approach

1 Develop high-precision methods for studying newborn organisms

2 Use those methods to obtain benchmarks on the origins and development of cognition

3 Use those benchmarks to build autonomous artificial agents (end-to-end computational models) formalizing the learning mechanisms in newborn brains

Broader Impact

Through studies of chicks, we aim to understand how perception and cognition develop in humans. This understanding will illuminate how babies learn about the world and provide benchmarks for building artificial intelligence that learns like newborn animals.
